Getting the Best Results with Painting a Lanai

“I have a front lanai that looks bad. Instead of replacing it, I would like to paint it. The screens are still good. How can I get the best results?”

It’s often good to put a fresh coat of paint on a lanai instead of replacing it. It certainly costs less!

I would first wash the area that needs to be painted with a bleach and water solution, and allow to dry.  Lightly sand any areas where is looks like the paint may be peeling.  Go to Home Depot and buy a gallon of Seal Krete, a clear chalk sealer.  The Seal Krete will seal in any oxidation and chalkiness and give you a sound surface to paint.  Then, paint the surface with two coats of Sherwin Williams Super Paint or Resilience in a satin or gloss finish.

With a bit of work, your front lanai will look as good as new.
