Help! My Bathroom Walls Are Ugly - Part Two

At Ron’s Painting, the product we have found to be very successful for wallpaper removal is liquid dishwashing soap.  We put a little soap in a pump sprayer, fill with hot water, and then use it to assist with removing the wallpaper and adhesive residue.

Throughout the process, we protect the floors and counters with porous sheets and towels to soak up as much of the excess water as possible. In addition, we leave all of the electrical outlets in place.

We spray on the water and with the dishwashing soap in the water, forming suds. These suds keep the wallpaper wet longer, which is important for keeping the surface wet while peeling off the wallpaper.  We do not scar the wallpaper in an effort to help prevent the wallpaper from coming off in little pieces, since you want large pieces to come off for best results.

At Ron’s Painting, we work in sections, removing the wallpaper first in a section, then going back using the same system – all while keeping the wall wet and removing the wallpaper backing.  We remove the backing, we run a broad knife scraper over the surface to remove as much glue as possible.

Then, we go back with a green stripping pad and remove the rest of the glue and washing the surface with a sponge and hot water.

Once the wallpaper is removed, we go back and check the walls to make sure they are not sticky with wallpaper glue we have missed – ensuring that we have successfully removed not only the wallpaper but also adhesive residue.

We always allow the walls to dry over night before we do any patching or caulking.  If your walls are textured, you have to be very careful in the removal to not nick up the textured walls.

Always keep Ron's Painting in mind when it comes to wallpaper removal. We have a lot of experience in the removal process and absolutely no experience in hanging wallpaper.
