More Advice for Painting Your Pool Decks and Driveways
If you remember in last week’s blog, I was talking about what we had to go through in painting a pool deck that was painted with a roof paint.
After we pressure-cleaned the pool deck, we went to seal the concrete surface with one coat of Bond-tite, an oil-based bonding primer from Glidden/Porter paint. By applying this product, it ensures that whatever product I use as a top coat will adhere to the bonding primer. I use this procedure any time a homeowner cannot show me what was previously used on the surface.
Once the Bond-tite cured overnight, we then applied two coats of Glidden/Porter paints acrylic concrete stain. As you can see in the attached two pictures, we used a color that was two shades lighter than the body color of the house, so it complimented each other, but yet was dark enough to hide the dirt (and light enough to stay cool in the Florida sun on the homeowners’ bare feet).
We always apply two coats of the acrylic concrete stain. This way I am sure the new color will cover over the brownish color left behind from the bonding primer.
The end result is amazing. See the pictures below.
It is always best to ask a paint professional on how to paint a driveway or pool deck before doing it yourself, and if you live in Florida, never hire a handyman to do this type of project. Check with the professionals at your local Sherwin Williams, or Glidden/Porter paint stores for a recommendation on a painting contractor to do this type of painting project.
