One Southwest Florida painting project that often gives people trouble is painting in a stairwell.

Painting the ceilings and walls in a stairwell is a very difficult process, let alone having to paint in a spiral staircase. However if you have the right equipment and knowledge it can go very smoothly.

As you can see in the pictures below, this spiral staircase goes up three floors. We had to paint the ceilings and walls with two coats of paint.  You will notice how everything is protected very well.  The one tool that really helped us do this painting project safely is a telescoping ladder that I purchased at Sherwin Williams.  This little ladder expands to different lengths and up to 16 feet at its max.  We were able to maneuver this ladder throughout this stairwell from the first floor to the third floor and we were able to safely paint this stairwell.

When we paint the coffer ceiling we will use two of these ladders in the stairwell along with two walk picks to safely get to the center of the coffer.  When hiring a painter for your next painting project, make sure they not only have the right knowledge for the job, but also the correct equipment to do the job safely.

Another helpful tool we had to build ourselves was this little wood box.  We built it so it would fit the size of the steps, but yet wide enough to hold a six-foot ladder and high enough so it was level with each step.  We then built another box and attached it to the first.  We found that during the painting process of this stairwell, we could adjust the height of this box.  We used them separately to the size of the steps to hold the weight of a ladder safely so we could paint the walls.
