Repairing Areas on the Home with Rusty Corner Beads

Many times, when we are painting the exterior of a home, we come across rusty corner beads. When the rusty corner beads are not treated in a timely manner, the rust can get out of control, it becomes very unsightly and the concrete becomes damaged as you can see in the last picture.

When we run into this problem, we work to grind down the rusty corner beads and paint a product called POR-15 over the rust. After allowing the POR-15 to dry overnight, we repair the concrete; allow the concrete to cure properly, then prime and paint.

I have found the POR-15 product to be extremely reliable in preventing the rust from building back up. I have been using this product for years and I have not had a single client call me back saying the rust has reappeared in the areas where we had done the repair. That is not to say that there were not areas that the rust came back, but, for the cost of POR-15, it really does an excellent job in preventing the unsightly rust from building back up and reappearing and in inhibiting the buildup of corrosion.
