Should I Paint My Lanai the Same Color as My Home’s Exterior? | Home Painting Advice

“I love the exterior colors of my home, but I don't like the same colors on my rear lanai.  Do homeowners paint their lanai's different colors than their homes?”

These are questions that are asked quite often when it comes to exterior home painting.  A homeowner will love the color scheme for the front of the home, but because they spend so much time on their rear lanai, they want to brighten up this area and make it part of the interior of their home.  They want to bring the interior of their home outdoors.

With one particular home in Grandezza that we painted, the lanai was very deep, and with the dark colors on the ceiling and walls, it made it very dreary and closed in.  What I tell homeowners is that when you have a screened in lanai, you have a break point to change colors.  Meaning, that anything inside of the screened in lanai area can be painted another color.  Change it up a little.

So what we did was we took the original banding/trim color and went one shade lighter for the ceiling, then took the trim color and painted the walls that color.  Then, we took the main color of the home and painted an accent wall and the banding on the rear lanai.  We just changed up the color scheme a little on the rear lanai and gave them a whole new look.

We also did a home in Bella Lago, near Estero and we actually took the color that we painted the great room and painted the entire rear lanai area with the same color.  We brought the interior of their home outdoors and created a really nice effect that made the lanai look and feel a part of the home, but unique at the same time.

Whether your lanai is the same color or a different scheme, there are a lot of things you can do creatively through home painting to make your entire house look better.
