What Do I Do with Unused Paint and Chemicals? | Home Painting Advice

“What can I do with the paint and chemicals that I have in my garage?  Where can I dispose of it?  Can I put this into my garbage can or weekly garbage disposal? Can I put this out with my recyclables?”

These are common questions homeowners ask when they come across unused paints and chemicals after a home painting project. Unfortunately, the answer to all of the questions is no.

Lee County and Collier County has hazardous waste disposal centers for each counties’ homeowners to properly dispose of their hazardous waste and paint.  Lee County has their own web page along with Collier County to help direct homeowners how to dispose of these materials along with even more items.

Visit this website for Lee County and see exactly what they will accept and what they won't.  On the Lee County site, there are listings where you can dispose of your old and outdated prescriptions with the Lee County Sheriff's Office prescription drug drop-off boxes. The website for Collier County is located here.

Be sure to carefully dispose of any unused paint and chemicals, and be sure they go to the right place. You definitely don’t want those substances to go just anywhere.
