Five Questions You Should Ask When Hiring a Painter

Hiring a painter for your home can be daunting. Whether you want to paint the interior or re-do the exterior, you need a professional who can do the job to your specifications, on time and on budget.

How do you choose between all of the options available to you in Southwest Florida? What questions should come to mind? Here are three questions you should ask.

Do you have a license?

You should always work with contractors who have a license. Failing to do so can only set you up for disappointment with the work you receive. Verify that your painter is licensed to do work in your area before moving forward.

Can you explain the application process to me?

This is a key question because you want to know how a painter will apply the paint to your home. If a painter can’t detail how the paint goes on, then he or she may not have the attention to detail required to do the job and do it well. You want to see how much attention they pay to the finer points of painting a home, so you can make sure your home is in good hands.

Do you have any references I can check?

References are important because you want a painter who has a solid track record of success and good customer service. A painter without references doesn’t have the track record on which you can rely, which means you won’t know what to expect or what to anticipate. A lack of good references is always a red flag.

Who will actually be doing the painting?

Some contractors promise to take care of all of the painting for a project but wind up contracting the job out to others. We think it’s important that the people you work with for the project are the people who actually do the painting. That way, you can ensure that your project is in the hands of professionals who know how to get the job done to perfection, the way you want it.

How much insurance do you hold?

Another major issue is insurance. You never want to work with someone who doesn’t carry enough insurance to cover an accident. Protect yourself first and foremost by hiring a painter who is well insured.

Interview each candidate before you choose, and never settle!
